AAMS is hiring its next Executive Director

Athens Area Mediation Service is seeking an Executive Director who brings leadership, people skills, and managerial experience. Our Director takes responsibility for daily operations, financial management, and program development.  The candidate must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience providing the required knowledge and skills to succeed.  Experience with conflict resolution programs, non-profit operations, community outreach, and training strongly preferred.

25 hours weekly.  Salary $24,000 - $28,000.  We are open to the Director building this into a full time position.  Athens Area Mediation Service is a non-profit community mediation organization providing a wide range of conflict resolution services throughout Athens County.

Executive Director (Part Time/Full Time)

Organization
The Athens Area Mediation Service, established in 1993, is a community based nonprofit organization that provides the residents of Athens County, Ohio, with cooperative approaches to dispute resolution. AAMS is dedicated to promoting and supporting reconciliation, integrity, openness, and inclusion. In addition, by training community members to serve as mediators and sharing these skills with others, AAMS empowers individuals and community groups to respond to conflict effectively.

Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as chief executive of Athens Area Mediation Service and, in partnership with the Board, is responsible its success. Together, the Board and Executive Director assure AAMS remains relevant to the community, continuously accomplishing the organization’s mission and vision, while remaining open & accountable to our diverse constituents. The Board delegates responsibility for management and day-to-day operations to the Executive Director, and s/he has the authority to carry out these responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board. The Executive Director provides direction that enables the Board to carry out its governance functions.

The current position is a part-time, 25 hours/week, and salaried position; however, the Board is willing to consider applicants interested in either a full-time or part-time contract. The Director is responsible for the overall daily administration of a private/non-profit, community-based, citizen’s dispute resolution center, serving the Athens County region. This position is a front-facing role with positive, effective community contact required to establish and develop ongoing case referrals for the agency.


Part Time (25 hrs/wk)
  • Leadership & Management 45%
    Supervise staff, oversee fiscal responsibilities including accounting and tax obligations. Responding to organizational inquiries (phone, email, web). 
  • Development & Fundraising 20%
    Community involvement and outreach, including events, speaking engagements, grant management (writing, & reporting). 
  • Planning & Presenting 30%
    Coordinate and conduct mediations. Coordinate and facilitate trainings. (15% ea.)
  • Collaboration & Accountability 5%
    Advise and apprise Board of Directors. Attend and present at monthly meetings. 

Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience. 
  • Proficiency in office and personnel administration including financial management, recruiting, relationship management, and staff supervision. 
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to interacting with local justice and social service systems preferred. 
  • Ability to raise funds, write, report, and administer grants. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, CRM, and database management systems. 
  • Superb communication skills in every format.  
  • Sensitive to culturally diverse populations and their representative issues. 
  • Experienced Mediators preferred but qualified applicants, willing to be trained will, be considered. Topics include but are not limited to: 
    • Actively mediate disputes and facilitation of conflict resolution. 
    • Proficiency in training others
      • University stakeholders (Faculty, Staff, Students, etc.)
      • Volunteer Mediators
      • Community Members
      • Youths (18 and under)
      • Business Leaders
